Saying good bye at the airport was the
hardest part of the trip. I never thought leaving would be this tough.

|
The plane taking us to LAX was big except,
for the small seats in economy that we had. By the time we arrived in LA our
bottoms were numb and square. It was nice that we had a five-hour layover
before leaving for China.

The flight over to China was very nice; we
had premium economy bulkhead seats with seats that reclined – Very comfy. The
only bad thing was we waited on the plane nearly three hours before we left. We
boarded at 12:30 AM in the early hours of 7/3 only to wait until 3:00 AM to
leave. First the plane was too heavy (diapers probably!), then I heard someone
say we had mechanical problems. Nevertheless, the flight was long at 14 ½
hours.

We finally arrived in Guangzhou, China at
8:30 AM on July 4th China time or 6:30 PM on July 3 Denver time,
hard to imagine. We lost all of July 3rd sleeping on the plane! We were met by
Mr. Gu, Raymond, and Mr. Lee at the airport when we landed. Of course our box
of cloths to donate to the orphanage did not make it on the plane, hopefully
they will come in sometime on Tuesday. From Guangzhou we flew to Nanning, where
we would get the babies.

At 4:30 on July 4th we met our
babies. The orphanage director brought me my little Mackenzie.

|
Words cannot describe the feeling of meeting
Mackenzie for the first time, as you can see by the look on both our faces.

Daddy doing the 6:00 AM feeding. So far our
first night together was good. Mackenzie slept through the night, in fact we
had to try and wake her for the midnight bottle that took us about two hours to
do after we figured out the proper size nipple hole. This was a common problem
experienced by all the parents as we found out later.
|
|
We gave Mackenzie her first bath. Dan stood
at the end of the tub, which has a platform perfect for our purposes and filmed
the whole thing. She loves the water, she did not cry and even began to kick
and play in the tub. I was soaked by the time it was over.
